The IP380 is introduced replacing the IP37, of which 60 were built. The IP380 is the first Island Packet not to use a separate bobstay under the bowsprit/anchor platform, with the headstay terminating at the stemhead. The IP320 is awarded Cruising World’s "Boat of the Year" for best mid-size cruiser. Carl and Layce Paffendorf tie the knot on Car-Lay (IP27-81), the first known wedding aboard an IP. David and Sally Heaphy, Slow Dancing (IP44-12) win their third 1st in Class victory in the Caribbean 1500. Suggestions to rename race to the "Island Packet 1500" are ignored.
